INCS-2008 Call for Papers
The focus of this year's conference is the current state and the future of Dutch Studies in an increasingly globalized world. What influence do phenomena linked to globalization such as migration, international commerce, cross-border cultural contacts or intercultural relationships have on Dutch and American identity and what are the embedded challenges for those who teach Dutch Studies and related fields in the United States? Papers dealing with shifting interpretations of identity and boundaries are especially desired, as well as topics that address the challenges of contextualizing the teaching and study of Dutch language, literature, culture, art and history in times of globalization.
Proposals for papers relating to other aspects of Dutch and Flemish society, history, and culture are also welcome. We invite proposals in the following areas: medieval and early modern studies, the history of philosophy and science, colonial history, film studies, urban studies and gender studies.
Proposals should not be longer than 350 words in length and should be submitted by January 15, 2008. Submissions must be based on original, unpublished research and presentations should be no longer than 20-25 minutes, allowing for discussion. Selected papers will be published in the series Studies in Dutch Language and Culture.
